Last week, the whole country was extremely excited when most of the Universities had announced the matriculation scores by the results of the National High School Exam. Besides, in recent times, Vietnam had many positive signs from vaccine development projects, and there is at least one domestic COVID-19 vaccine to be licensed by the end of this year. Another good news is that UNESCO’s Man and Biosphere Program (MAB) on September 15 added 20 new names to the World Network of Biosphere Reserves, including two landmarks in our country!

UNIVERSITY BENCHMARKS IN 2021 INCREASE SHARPLY

Compared to the previous year, this year’s university admissions standards continued to increase. There are some majors with more than 30 points of matriculation.

Until today, most universities have announced the matriculation scores by considering National High School Exam results. This year’s benchmarks are attracting attention as they have all increased sharply in most groups, averaging 3-4 points compared to 2020.

According to Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son, there are three main reasons make the standard score increase this year, which are: (1) increase in English test scores; (2) the number of candidates applying increased sharply and the increasing trend of choosing to study at university; (3) the trend of choosing industries, due to the impact of the economy during epidemic conditions.

For UEH, this year’s benchmark has remained stable or just slightly increased in most industries compared to 2020. The industries with the highest qualifying scores are Marketing (Standard and HighQuality Program) and International Business (Talented Bachelor Program) with 27.5.

By the way, EZ wants to send our warmest congratulations and greetings to you to have officially become new students of UEH K47. You are the pride of a new generation of UEH!

In addition, preliminary statistics show that not only excellent in academic performance, but K47 also have a solid English background. Nearly 50% of the candidates admitted to UEH have achieved international English standards, with an IELTS score of higher than 6.0 or equivalent. EZ is very excited to meet and interact with you at English Zone as soon as possible!

How about you? Our dear K47! Are you looking forward to coming to the English Zone and participating in our exciting activities?!

AT LEAST ONE DOMESTIC COVID-19 VACCINE TO BE LICENSED BY YEAR-END

At least one homegrown COVID-19 vaccine will be licensed for use by the end of this year, Nguyen Ngo Quang, Deputy Director of the Department of Science, Technology and Training under the Ministry of Health.

Besides negotiations to procure COVID-19 vaccines from foreign manufacturers, the MoH has created favorable conditions for domestic developers in vaccine research, technology transfer and clinical trials.

According to a report by the Ministry of Health, Vietnam is one of the few countries in the region that has actively researched vaccines, with three vaccine candidates undergoing clinical trials at different stages. Two vaccines are domestically developed, and one is technology transferred. In addition, Vietnam continues to cooperate with some countries in the transfer of other vaccine production technologies.

In the afternoon of September 14, Nanogen Pharmaceutical Biotechnology JSC and the research team submitted an additional report on the clinical trial research results of Nano Covax. Then, the Ethics committee and the Advisory council would evaluate.

COVIVAC vaccine developed by Nha Trang Vaccine and Biological Products Company (IVAC) has evaluated mid-phase 1 of clinical trial’s result, prepared to inject 2nd  dose of phase 2, and expected to enter phase 3 in December 2021.

The technology transfer ARCT-154 vaccine developed by US company Arcturus Therapeutics, Inc is in the clinical trials process. Leaders of the Ministry of Health had permitted to deploy phase 2 and phase 3 of this vaccine.

The Ministry of Health also supports units in negotiating to receive technology transfer for COVID-19 vaccine production from partners of Japan, Spain and Cuba…

VIETNAM HAS TWO NEW UNESCO-RECOGNIZED BIOSPHERE RESERVES

UNESCO has designated the Nui Chua National Park in Ninh Thuan Province and Kon Ha Nung Plateau in Gia Lai as global biosphere reserves.

The two were among 20 new sites approved at the 33rd ongoing session of the International Coordinating Council of UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Program in Nigeria.

Perched at 1,000m height above sea level, Nui Chua National Park in the central province has nearly 20,000 hectares of primary forests with 300 animal species and 600 rare plant species. This place has a diverse system of creatures typical to the tropical dry forest and cannot be found in any part of Vietnam.

Meanwhile, Kon Ha Nung Plateau Biosphere Reserve is located on more than 410,000 hectares with two core areas, Kon Ka Kinh National Park and Kon Chu Rang Nature Reserve. The reserve has a closed subtropical humid evergreen forest ecosystem that remains relatively intact. It boasts high biodiversity, typical for forest ecosystem, forest flora and fauna in the Central Highlands.

There are now 727 UNESCO biosphere reserves in 131 countries and territories. The two new sites take the number of global biosphere reserves in Vietnam to 11, one of the highest in the world. In Southeast Asia, it is second only to Indonesia (19).
