The term “Self-Improvement” has gained popularity among Gen Z due to the remarkable development of digital platforms. However, rather than offering a foundation for young people to lay out for themselves, those platforms have somewhat framed the definition of self-development in activities like exercise or reading books. This inevitably leads to young people feeling perplexed and lost on the path to finding and growing as individuals. So what is the basis of Self-Improvement?

We can easily find content containing the keyword “Self-Improvement” while browsing websites like Tik Tok, Facebook, Instagram, and others. It seems to have evolved into an ideology, a way of life that advocates for personal success. However, Finding information that covers the fundamentals of self-development can be challenging. Understanding this reality, the Department of Student Affairs (DSA) organized an EZ Career Talk on July 6, 2023, with Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien, Human Resources Partner at United Overseas Bank Vietnam with the theme “From Fixed to Growth: Transforming Your Mindset”.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien delivered the message and addressed the questions of many young people during the sharing session. She said that changing your mindset is the most crucial step in creating the best personal development path for you.

Throughout the program, the speaker examined and contrasted the differences between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset in all facets of life. Additionally, she uses real-world examples and examples from her own life to illustrate how both of these ways of thinking affect people. When you constantly frame yourself in particular scenarios and conceptions, you refuse to acknowledge and address your flaws. It is believed that this way of thinking severely restricts personal development. A growth mindset, on the other hand, enables individuals to realize their full potential, alter their viewpoint through the acceptance of constructive criticism and suggestions about themselves, and then use that as a catalyst for further development.

Throughout the program, there were insightful and productive conversations.

The hybrid workshop of “From Fixed to Growth: Transforming Your Mindset” was successfully organized with the participation of nearly 200 UEH students, had the chance to put their newly acquired knowledge into practice in a fun environment that was infused with a learning spirit and active participation from the attendees. Through exercises for both groups and individuals, the speaker helped participants alter their thinking. In the hybrid form of a combination of face-to-face and online, UEH English Zone increased connections and expanded opportunities to learn for the UEH community.

In order to help students get ready for a multicultural workplace, EZ Career Talk focuses on communication skills and essential career skills with professionals in the field as part of periodic activities.
