Recap of the wonderful moments at the Acoustic Show: Timeless Tunes

The brilliant journey at the Acoustic Show took us on a time-travel journey back to the century songs to honor the marks of music history. Each voice, each melody blended together to create a warm, emotion-filled atmosphere. Favorite music show at UEH English Zone At the beginning of the music show, the students were taken on a journey back to the years 2000 to 2015 – the golden era of pop music. Since 2000, digital music has become increasingly popular with the emergence of many modern music streaming platforms, leading to a fresh musical trend within the music-loving community of this period. Especially genres like Pop, EDM, and Hip hop have become trendy and dominate the music market. Top-notch music tracks Stepping into the second part of the show, “New Wave,” the musical space is filled with melodies that breathe modernity. This is a period when USUK music is rising strongly, creating impressive breakthroughs. “New Wave” is also the explosion of new, captivating music genres like Trap, Pop, R&B,… Catchy melodies and emotionally charged lyrics quickly won the hearts of the students. Enthusiastic support from the students The sincere lyrics and deep melodies from the student group “Ho Đa Cha Guom” have taken listeners through a full spectrum of emotions, from joyful and lively moments to reflective and contemplative ones. Like a dose of spiritual medicine, the Acoustic Show: Timeless Tunes helped UEH students dispel fatigue and regain positive energy after hours of intense studying. Tea-break activities and exciting entertainment minigames Not only can students immerse themselves in a vibrant musical atmosphere, but they also have the opportunity to showcase their quick reflexes and sharp eyes through unique minigames, bringing home valuable prizes. Especially, the exquisite combination of the fragrant tea and the sweet pastries thoughtfully prepared by the Organizing Committee created an unforgettable experience. Last October, the UEH English Park became an interesting destination for UEH students of all levels and systems—a place where they can relax and practice their English skills after intense study hours. With a variety of diverse and creative activities, UEH English Zone has created a lively atmosphere, helping students comfortably practice English to share and learn from each other. EZ starts October off with the flavor of coffee Kicking off October for UEH English Zone is the EZ Talks event themed Coffegan, inspired by International Coffee Day (October 1st). “Coffegan” is a combination of Coffee and Vegan – for coffee lovers and those who choose vegan options. The commonality between coffee and veganism is that both do not stop at food and beverages; in Vietnam, they are also a way of life. At this EZ Talks session, you will share your insights about coffee, your experiences with vegetarianism, and the meaning behind these everyday foods and beverages. Sharing the same idea The Student Union – Student Association of the Faculty of Foreign Languages (SFL) organized the ECOFF “International Coffee Day” event to explore coffee culture and the interesting stories surrounding this beloved beverage. Join the program, where you can savor cups of coffee while discussing modern coffee trends, including the combination of coffee with unique and creative ingredients. “She” – The beautiful half of the world In order to convey love and affection to Vietnamese women on this special day, the Speaking Group Extended: Generation event by the BELL English Club and the EZ Talks – DIY Crafting Queens activity provided an opportunity for participants to personally write cards to send encouraging messages to the women they love, through beautiful flower baskets and cards, gifts made by themselves at the English Zone. Wrapping up October, the English club organized a unique event called EZ Talks: EZ say hi, where a large number of eager students gathered to discuss the topic of music and idols, a universal theme to make friends while improving their English skills. The new arrival of new Boardgames EZ Board Game has always been an activity that attracts a large number of UEH students. In October, EZ launched a new board game called “Cover Your Assets” which requires players to use skill and strategy to accumulate wealth and protect it from opponents who want to steal it. Which student will best demonstrate their “economic” prowess to build wealth and become a millionaire the fastest? Besides Cover your Assets, national board games like Taboo, Mondrawsity, Secret H, etc., also do not fall behind and still attract the participation of many UEH students. Transform your writing: Simple techniques for instant improvement

With guest speaker – Mr. Clay Wilkins shared, “My students often struggle with two main issues in English: coherence and the ability to present ideas in a diverse and engaging manner.” To address these challenges, he frequently recommends leveraging the power of ‘adverbs’ and ‘conjunctions’ as keys to unlocking language in a more efficient and effective way. This was also the central theme of the recent language workshop: Transform your writing: Simple techniques for instant improvement, organized by UEH English Zone and featuring a presentation by Mr. Clay Wilkins. “Adverbs in a sentence do more than just a cherry on top; they bring sentences to life, making them more engaging and insightful. By clarifying the meaning, they help readers to develop a deeper understanding of the actions and events being described. Consequently, they significantly enhance the overall quality of writing. However, many learners avoid using adverbials due to their perceived complexity. “I dislike how they complicate language, especially English,” shared Mr.Clay. “Complexity breeds fear and makes language learning tedious.” Therefore, his teaching methods are designed to be simple, understandable, and enjoyable while remaining effective. Through visual examples and straightforward categorization, the speaker helped students grasp the importance of adverbials and how to use them appropriately.” The speaker shares how to classify and use adverbs In addition to enhancing sentence quality through the use of adverbs, Mr. Clay Wilkins shared insights on conjunctions to help students overcome coherence issues in their English writing. Using the familiar ‘FANBOYS’ method, with a fresh and engaging approach, Mr. Wilkins enabled students to improve the coherence of their writing, particularly through the highly engaging on-the-spot practice activities he provided. To conclude the workshop, a short game was organized to help students practice the vocabulary and linking words discussed during the session. The two-hour session was filled with a lively atmosphere, a strong learning spirit, and active participation. As part of the UEH English Zone project, the language workshop is a monthly event with various practical themes to gradually increase students’ and staff members’ interest in learning English, fostering habits, and stimulating their intrinsic motivation. Are You Ready for Dopamine Fasting?

After spending over 180 minutes scrolling through TikTok, you put your phone down and feel an overwhelming sense of emptiness. The faster you scroll and the more you watch, the less satisfaction you derive. Activities that once brought you joy now seem insufficient. If you see yourself in this scenario, you may be experiencing “dopamine overload” – a dependence on the happiness hormone that drives you to repeat tasks and actions until you feel exhausted and completely disoriented. The Dopamine Dose: Is More Always Better? Dopamine, often referred to as the happiness hormone, is a neurotransmitter produced from tyrosine that plays a critical role in the brain and body. It is fundamentally tied to survival instincts, influencing daily behaviors and physical activities. Broadly speaking, dopamine is involved in creating motivation, learning, and pleasure within our bodily systems. Dopamine is associated with euphoria and bliss (Source: University Health News) However, in today’s world, we are surrounded by numerous forms of stimuli, ranging from social media, and sweets to caffeine and cigarettes. If a single cup of coffee used to be enough to keep you alert throughout an all-nighter, now it feels like no amount is sufficient to ward off drowsiness. Many of the things we once enjoyed and consumed regularly now require larger quantities or more frequent use to achieve the same level of excitement or satisfaction that we experienced in the past. What’s more concerning is that, as a study from PubMed Central suggests, negative stimuli tend to trigger a greater release of dopamine in the brain, making these unhealthy behaviors more enticing than healthier options. When left unchecked, we may unconsciously engage in these activities at increasingly higher intensities, leading to compulsive and impulsive behavior patterns that can be difficult to break.
