National Action Month on Gender Equality and Gender-based Violence Prevention and Response takes place from November 15 to December 15, 2024, with the aim of ensuring social protection, empowering women and girls, and creating equal opportunities, thereby advancing gender equality and eliminating gender-based violence. This is an opportunity for all of us to join hands and take action toward a violence-free society.

The action month has been held annually from November 15 to December 15 since 2016. To date, its messages have been popularised to more than 10 million people, raising their awareness of gender equality and gender-based violence prevention and response.

The action month for gender equality and tackling gender-based violence runs annually from November 15 to December 15. Orange is chosen as the colour of the global campaign to end gender-based violence because it is bright and brings hope to women and children affected by violence and those working in the field.

This year’s Action Month emphasizes the importance of early detection and prompt handling of violence and abuse against women and children. The goal is to reduce and ultimately eliminate violence in society, thereby building a community where the rights and safety of women and children are fully protected.

Gender-based violence remains a pressing issue worldwide and within our own society. It affects the physical and mental health of millions of women and girls every day. Beyond harming victims, violence weakens communities and hinders sustainable development.

We cannot remain bystanders. Every action, no matter how small, can make a difference. By participating in this Action Month—raising awareness, educating others, and preventing violence—we contribute to creating a safer environment for women and girls. Let us work together to protect and empower women and girls so they can live in a safe, equal, and violence-free society.
