VIETNAM–THAILAND: 45TH ANNIVERSARY OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS

In recent times, bilateral relations have continuously developed in several sectors, including national defense, security, trade, investment, and tourism, recording remarkable achievements. Both sides first established a strategic partnership in 2013 and elevated their relationship to an enhanced strategic partnership in 2019.

Many activities have been carried out to congratulate this special event.

On August 6, on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand (August 6, 1976 – August 6, 2021), the Embassy of Vietnam in Thailand, Institute of Security and International Studies – Thailand’s Chulalongkorn University and the Centre for Southeast Asian Studies – the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences jointly held a seminar with the title “The 45th Anniversary of Vietnam-Thailand Relations: Taking Stock and Moving Forward”.

Besides, a book reviewing 45 years of Viet – Thai relationship will be introduced to the public, marking a milestone journey of friendly cooperation.

The book consists of three main parts. It was Written by Dr. Truong Thi Hang, a Vietnamese lecturer from Lampang Rajabhat University, and Dr. Nakorn Serirak, a Thai lecturer from College of Local Administration, Khon Kaen University (Thailand).

HO CHI MINH CITY: HEARTWARMING HUMANITY IN THE CENTER OF THE EPIDEMIC

The past few weeks have probably been a tough time for the country and Ho Chi Minh City. The City’s battle with COVID-19 is still very tough. But the more difficult time is, the more noble gestures appear, sharing lovingness, spreading humanity in the community.

In the generally tricky conditions of the pandemic, many organizations and individuals have carried out practical activities, thereby spreading the spirit of “The leaves protect tattered ones” and overcoming difficulties together.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Confederation, trade unions at all levels have donated tons of food, agricultural products, essential items, more than 40,000 meals, and tens of thousands of canned food to households, families, and individuals facing difficulties due to the COVID-19 epidemic.

In addition, there have been many volunteer groups and individuals taking the initiative in many ways to support the poor and freelance workers to overcome difficulties, through “zero VND kitchens”, “charity meals”… Many models such as “0 VND mini-supermarket “, “0 VND fair market”, “Sharing supermarket ” … had appeared, are the hearts of those who implement it with the desire to help alleviate some of the difficulties and inconveniences.

Not outside the battle, UEH has also built and conducted practical support activities for students, especially those staying in Ho Chi Minh City. The gifts were not too big, but we hope that they could share some of the learners’ difficulties, and at the same time, provide motivation for UEHers to be stronger and accompany the city in overcoming the pandemic.

The solidarity and consensus of each city dweller, along with love and the spirit of mutual affection, will further strengthen the belief of determination to win so that the city can win. Ho Chi Minh and the whole country soon repel the epidemic. EZ hopes that these good things will be spread widely, giving more energy and belief that the day the City “recovers” will not be far away.

BUSAN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL SCREENS TWO VIETNAMESE MOVIES

“Memento Mori: Water” and “If Wood Could Cry, It Would Cry Blood” will represent Vietnam at this year’s Busan International Film Festival (BIFF)’s Asian Project Market (APM).

“Memento Mori: Water” is directed by Marcus Manh Cuong Vu and producers Nguyen Hoang Diep and Nguyen Trinh Hoan. The movie tells the story of Ha, a mother who accompanies her son Nam who has bone cancer. The event opened for Ha the door to humanity, sympathy, sharing, and enlightenment.

The film belongs to a trilogy of works with the common name Memento Mori, scripted by Vu, inspired by a true story in the book “Diem Den Cua Cuoc Doi” (The Destination Of Life) by author Dang Hoang Giang. Another work in the trilogy – “Memento Mori: Earth” – is awaiting post-production and is expected to be released next year.

The director said he was happy with the project’s selection for the event. He hopes the next installment will be filmed soon since the child actors have grown fast since being cast in 2019.

“If Wood Could Cry, It Would Cry Blood” is the debut movie of young director Nguyen Phan Linh Dan. She worked as the director of photography for “Bi Mat Cua Gio” (The Secret of the Wind) in 2020 – a film directed by her father, director Nguyen Phan Quang Binh, which was screened at BIFF in the past.

Organizers said the selected films would be screened from Oct. 12th to 14th. Film directors will have to face a panel of international producers and investors to receive their cash prizes. For example, the “Tick It” film project by Tran Thanh Huy, director of the award-winning film “Rom”, one of the two grand prize winners at BIFF 2019, received a prize of $10,000 at APM 2020.

Asian Project Market – APM 2021 said it received 429 film submissions and picked 26 final selections from 15 countries and territories, including two movies from Vietnam.
