Are you overwhelmed with presentation assignments at school? Or are you struggling to grab the audience’s attention and organize your ideas effectively? Whether you are a freshman just starting your academic journey or a senior preparing to defend your graduation thesis, confident, clear, and coherent presentation skills are always crucial. To help UEHers enhance these skills, UEH English Zone hosted a language workshop at UEH Nguyen Van Linh with the topic of “Strategies for Mastering Academic Presentations”.

To equip students with important and necessary presentation skills, the seminar was led by Mr. Le Cao Bach, who has over 11 years of experience in language teaching. Throughout the program, Mr. Bach delivered a highly engaging presentation, sharing strategies to help presenters capture the audience’s attention.

Mr. Le Cao Bach enthusiastically shared practical knowledge about presentation skills

Presentation tips from the speaker’s practical experiences

Drawing from his practical experience, Mr. Bach shared a “winning” formula for opening a presentation:

  • Step 1. Introduce yourself: Use professional and formal images and gestures appropriate for an academic setting.
  • Step 2. Summarize the content of your speech: Clearly and concisely present the content of each part of the presentation. State the reason and purpose of your speech before delving into the main content.

This formula is applicable not only in academic settings but also in classes, leading seminars, connecting conversations, work exchanges, etc.

Students were listening and receiving guidance from the speaker

The seminar was led by the speaker with open interactive activities. Each participant chose a real topic of interest and directly practiced short presentation segments, such as the introduction, body, and conclusion, right there during the workshop.

Students were practicing presentation skills right during the workshop

Engaging content lasted until the very end of the workshop

Not only did the students attentively take notes and listen throughout the speaker’s presentation, but they also actively participated in the Q&A session at the end. From their questions and the enthusiastic spirit in which they received advice from Mr. Bach, it’s clear that the content he shared resonated deeply and provided significant academic value.

Lively and enthusiastic Q&A session

The language workshop, “Strategies for Mastering Academic Presentations”, brought valuable lessons for the learning journey of UEH students. In addition to practical presentation models, Mr. Bach also shared other useful knowledge, such as presentation style in an academic environment (tone, gestures), preferred vocabulary, real-world examples, and how to practice to improve skills and confidence when presenting in front of an audience.
