When you wake up in the morning, what is the first thing you usually do? Have a bright smile to welcome an excellent new day? Or complain about a sleepy wincing face about more acnes coming out due to sleeping late last night and that today is another tough day ahead?
Have you ever noticed your shoulders are tired from pressures and sitting too long in front of the computer screen? Have you ever noticed your knees are too heavy, your back is too arched, your neck slants forward due to the incorrect postures in daily life? Those are the language your body is using to communicate with the world as well as with yourself. It is challenging to feel confident and comfortable with a strained body by fatigue and pressure.
How can we feel comfortable with others when we don’t agree with our own bodies? Are you self-body shaming, annoyed and unhappy with yourself? And for how long have you also believed in the others’ shaming on your body?
Overview of the sharing session among UEH students on the topic “Overcoming the fear of body shaming by self-love.”
Learning to love your body is discovering your hidden beauty every day, to communicate positively with yourself and respond to the body’s signal. Learn a correct posture and a natural gait, take a deep, full and refreshing breath, stretch and relax to find the real comfort inside your own body. You know, you need to learn how to cherish your body as the most precious gift you’ve ever had, the best present you’ve received, or the closest friend you will accompany in this whole life.
When you spend a lot of energy observing, being nice, focusing on yourself, and learning how to change into a better version, you’ll forget the desire to change other people and also no longer care about the shaming that society gives you. You will then really know who you are, what you want, and feel no pressure from the outside world. The important things are your physical and emotional well-being, the love and caring of yourself, and living up to your heart’s desires. And the most important of all is choosing yourself. Once you do it, other things will be in their places.
Be nice to yourself. When you start to treat yourself well, you will be surprised to discover that life is wonderful. Such simple things as smiling and complimenting yourself with a few sentences every time you accidentally pass by a mirror will drastically change how you see yourself. When you know how to be nice to yourself, your life will change forever. You will never regret loving yourself. It was the message Ms. Naomi Truong – CEO of FYoung Dance Club shared with the students at the workshop on student care and support held by the Department of Student Affairs (DSA) on January 12th, 2021.
Under the workshop series framework on student care and support, UEH has organized many useful activities inspired by deep concern and compassion for the students’ difficulties. DSA invited experts to share and answer the questions from students of each year or program, including the exciting and meaningful topic of Overcoming the fear of Body Shaming. DSA is expected to become a good and genuinely reliable destination for students to share and have their concerns adequately settled with the motto of dedicated service and a professionally trained and regularly updated team.
