The academic presentation is a relatively new format that enlarges its applications, implemented in different types of higher learning. Consequently, these types of academic presentations expand their sphere of application, and it is required to improve students’ presentation skills. Conferences, seminars, and discussions are other fields where academic presentations effectively introduce and present scientific research results.

Because of many requirements, many people have difficulty in an academic presentation, especially when using a second language such as English. Some difficulties can be mentioned, such as preparation and delivery.

In order to help UEHers have the opportunity to improve and develop their academic presentation skills, English Zone and the School of Foreign Languages present a seminar with the topic “Academic speaking: Power up your presentations” in the series of periodic activities Language Workshop. With the companionship of Ms. Kirsten Reid, Senior Learning Advisor at Te Taiako Student Learning, Victoria University of Wellington, the workshop promises to bring a lot of helpful information such as:

+ The basics of effective oral presentations in academic contexts.
+ Key elements you need to consider when preparing a presentation
+ Tips for compellingly delivering your talk and for developing confidence.
+ General points about presenting online.
