This past October, UEH English Zone became an ideal destination for students to unwind after long, stressful days of study. With the mission of creating a space where the UEH student community can practice English and build meaningful connections, English Zone has continuously strived to deliver a fulfilling experience for everyone. In addition to that, English Zone offered a wide range of engaging activities – from discussions and movie screenings to board games and hands-on Halloween crafts. Now, let’s take a moment to look back on a memorable October, and don’t forget to stay tuned for more exciting events with UEH English Zone in the coming months!
Wandering back to childhood with never-told stories on the Mid-Autumn festival night
When we think of the Mid-Autumn Festival, do we think of the sister Hằng uncle Cuội, or the bursting flavors of mooncakes, or the lively and joyous lantern festivals? This October, the BELL English Club, in collaboration with UEH English Zone, organized the Speaking Group Extended program under the theme Lunar Tales, which brought a cozy evening centered around stories of the Mid-Autumn Festival. Through thrilling games and valuable sharing, the activity helped participants experience the festival night filled with nostalgia, reflection, and also excitement and wonder.

Cheerful DIY arts and crafts pit stop
On the challenging path of life, having friends as companions is one of the most precious treasures the world can offer. Understanding this, School of Foreign Languages for Economics (SFL), together with UEH English Zone, organized a Workshop to make colorful and lovely friendship bracelets. This was also an opportunity for students to gather and discuss the meaning of friendship and related relationships.

In the festive atmosphere, ECOFF and the English Zone also collaborated to create a creative and spooky playground. Participants had the chance to personalize pumpkins into unique and witty works of art. The activity helped students enhance their communication skills and take home a truly unique and meaningful gift.

In the lively and joyful atmosphere of Halloween, hosts at the English Zone meticulously guided students step-by-step to create a “one-of-a-kind” basket just by transforming basic materials. After completing their own creations, students also received candies to participate in the “Trick or Treat” game, creating an evening that was both cozy and bustling with festive spirit.
Uncovering unique and engaging horizons in EZ Talks
EZ Talks in October kicked off with the soothing melodies of “Song That Made Us” – a theme that brought back nostalgic memories of songs that have accompanied us through the years. Participants then embarked on a “rollercoaster ride” with two intriguing topics: “Superstitions,” which explored mysterious beliefs, and “Etiquette,” which examined cultural differences in everyday manners and customs. In “Superstitions,” students explored mysterious stories, pondered things science could not yet explain, and listened to “spine-chilling” experiences that had never been revealed. In contrast to the fantastical “Superstitions” was the topic “Etiquette,” which allowed students to discuss the etiquette in life, while opening up many perspectives on the differences in rituals from various places.

Wrapping up the EZ Talks series was the theme “Ideal Life,” where participants freely imagined their dream future and shared their personal aspirations and goals.
Board Games that make you “lose track of time”
The return of the game “Werewolf” left players restless with dramatic mind battles and “stunning” moments when true identities were revealed. Equally special was the exciting game “Cover Your Assets” with its intense scramble for massive fortunes.

To mark October, UEH English Zone also introduced two intricate games, “Taboo” and “Codenames,” prompting players to engage in deep thought while simultaneously expanding their English vocabulary. Furthermore, familiar titles such as “Coup,” “Virus,” and “Saboteur” also helped generate an atmosphere brimming with laughter and memorable moments for participants of the EZ Board Games session this month.

EZ Silver Screen – The heart-reaching artistic haven
Two short films, “Aesthetic” and “The Present,” were warmly received by participants last month. With a theme revolving around the artistic worldview, students had the opportunity to exchange various perspectives related to the beauty of life in general and the genuine beauty in the short film “Aesthetic” in particular.

The film “The Present” tells a touching story between a boy and his disabled dog, helping viewers understand more about the will to live, and realize that failure is not an end point but a motivation for personal development every day.

The activities in October not only helped participants practice their English skills but were also an opportunity for diverse experiences, connecting with one another, relieving stress, and developing communication skills. Spanning from EZ Talks, EZ Silver Screen, EZ Board Games, EZ DIY, to EZ Club activities, the UEH English Zone received massive participation and positive feedback from the student community.
