On February 6, 2026, the Department of Student Affairs and the School of Foreign Languages successfully hosted the online workshop “AI Tools for Real Impacts in English Learning”, welcoming over 300 participants via Microsoft Teams. The event offered practical insights into how AI can meaningfully support English learning in a personalized, accessible, and responsible way.

The workshop was delivered by Mr. Le Nguyen Như Anh, a PhD candidate in Education at Adelaide University. In addition to teaching and research, the speaker is the founder of EdTech Corner, a platform providing free AI-powered tools for English teachers and learners.

The presentation highlighted four key benefits of AI in English language learning:

  • Personalization and adaptive learning: AI can adjust feedback and learning pathways based on individual learners’ styles, levels, and needs.
  • Instant feedback and effective correction: Learners receive immediate, detailed responses for writing and speaking practice.
  • Reduced anxiety and a safe learning environment: AI does not judge, allowing learners to make mistakes freely and practice with confidence.
  • Cost efficiency and reduced geographical barriers: Advanced AI technologies are now accessible to learners anytime, anywhere.

Beyond conceptual discussions, the workshop devoted substantial time to hands-on practice. Participants learned how to create an API key and experienced AI-supported tools for:

  • Writing feedback based on standardized rubrics (e.g. IELTS Writing)
  • Speaking practice with clear assessment criteria
  • A web-based AI ecosystem requiring no installation and compatible across devices

Through these activities, learners were introduced to various ways of building personalized AI-powered learning systems aligned with their individual goals and learning pathways.

The workshop emphasized that understanding how to learn with AI is more important than knowing many AI tools. When used appropriately and with clear direction, AI can become a sustainable learning companion, supporting English learners in developing their skills proactively, effectively, and in the long term.
