As part of the UEH Wellbeing \u2013 Flourishing University<\/strong> activity series, UEH has organized first aid training sessions for students, staff and employees. The programme provides practical basic first aid knowledge and skills, helping participants respond to common emergencies, protect health and support others when needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through this initiative, UEH aims to build a safer and more proactive community where members are better prepared to take care of themselves and support those around them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/em>The training programme was organized for staff members and key student representatives from youth and student organizations, Department of Student Affairs (DSA) student collaborators, the Dormitory Student Self-Management Team, and UEH Green Living Hub.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

First Aid: An Essential Skill for Every Community<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

First aid refers to the immediate care given to a person who is injured or suddenly becomes ill. It aims to help protect life, prevent a condition from becoming worse and support the injured person while waiting for professional medical assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this reason, basic first aid knowledge and skills are important for improving a community’s ability to respond to emergencies. In situations such as cardiac arrest, choking or severe bleeding, recognizing the emergency early and providing appropriate first aid can make an important difference before professional medical help arrives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The programme was organized in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City First Aid and Disaster Prevention Training Center<\/strong>. By combining theory with hands-on practice, participants were able not only to learn about first aid but also to practise essential skills under the guidance of professional trainers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at the opening of the training programme, Mr. Nguyen Van Duong, MSc., Acting Deputy Head of the Department of Student Affairs<\/strong>, emphasized:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAccidents and injuries can happen at any time during study, work or daily activities. Therefore, equipping each member with first aid knowledge and skills is essential for building a community that can actively support one another in emergency situations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Learning Through Practice<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The training focused on situations that may occur in everyday life, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR);<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Controlling bleeding and treating and dressing wounds;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Responding to heat exhaustion, heatstroke and heat-related illness;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Responding to choking, including the Heimlich manoeuvre;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • First aid for burns and chemical poisoning;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Responding to muscle strains, sprains and dislocations;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Immobilizing suspected fractures;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Safely moving and transporting injured persons.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Easy-to-understand explanations and practical examples helped participants remember important first aid skills.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    At the end of the programme, participants had the opportunity to practise first aid techniques and complete practical assessments based on simulated multiple-injury scenarios<\/strong>. The training aimed to help participants remain calm, respond appropriately and act responsibly when facing an emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Participants take part in practical assessments based on accident and emergency scenarios.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    From Individual Skills to Community Health and Safety<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Building on these activities, UEH plans to organize another first aid training course in October 2026<\/strong> for students living at the UEH Green Living Hub Nguyen Van Linh<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The programme carries the spirit of \u201cReady to Act \u2013 Ready to Help.\u201d<\/strong> When a member of the UEH community can recognize an emergency, know how to call for help and provide appropriate first aid, an individual’s skills can become part of the community’s overall ability to respond and support one another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    As part of its UEH Wellbeing \u2013 Flourishing University<\/strong> direction, UEH aims not only to create a positive learning environment but also to develop a community where students, staff and employees can learn and work in a safe and caring environment, while having the ability to look after themselves and support others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    First aid training is therefore a practical activity that helps equip the UEH community with the knowledge and skills needed to respond to emergencies. At the same time, it contributes to building a culture of proactive health care, safety and community responsibility at UEH.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In 2026, as UEH marks 50 years of establishment and development<\/strong>, the programme also helps spread the values of care, sharing and responsibility. Through practical actions and everyday skills, UEH continues to strengthen a connected community and contribute to building a Wellbeing \u2013 Flourishing University for sustainable development<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
